Ok let’s talk sizing here. When you go to buy clothing are you totally confused? Do you find that you prefer to buy things that are smaller just to say you wear that size? Of course the manufacturers know that you feel this way, so they are making clothing with smaller and smaller tags to absolutely confuse everyone. With obesity on the rise is America, do we really think that we are all a size 2? Come on! The real story is that clothing manufacturers decide what size to call the clothing, and they know you will buy more in a size 2 even if you are really a size 8. So, to be sure, you need to be able to get your measurments taken and keep that as your gage. Measure your bust, waist, and hips. That way you will have an idea of where you fall.

When a fit model lands a client, they are known as the “production fit model” These models are usually booked on an as needed basis by the client. Many fit models are booked for a two hour minimum and it varies how often they are booked with a client. Some models work everyday, and others work twice or three times a week. The rates for fit models vary depending on the location, NYC pays higher rates due to the high cost of living than other cities. The Los Angeles are is filled with garment manufacturers that use fit models on a consistent basis. The fit model business is a small part of the modeling industry. Fit models are essential for garment manufacturers and designers. The role of the fit model is to provide feedback on the fit of the garment for production purposes. It goes something like this..

A company will design a pair of jeans, they will sew up a sample in a certain size. A model will come in and try on the sample. After the style has been sold to the stores, it will need to be mass produced. The fit is cirtical to the sale of the garment. Have you ever loved a piece of clothing only to find out that it does not fit? The fit model ensures that a person can wear the garments. By telling the patternmakers where the garment is tight or loose, the design team will correct the garment and mass produce for sale in retail store.
